Phil Heath takes the Mr Olympia Crown
The Mr Olympia title has been chased down and captured by bodybuilding legends such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronnie Coleman, Lee Haney and Jay Cutler but it was two time defending champion, Phil Heath, who wowed the judges and gained the honour of the 2013 Mr. Olympia title for the third time in his career. Phil ‘The Gift’ Heath finished ahead of Kai Greene for the second year in a row, and ahead of a whole host of past champions such as four times champion Jay Cutler and Dexter Jackson, proving that he is a worthy champion whom has risen to great heights.
Phil Heath’s rise in the bodybuilding circuit began when he made the change from Basket Ball player to bodybuilding in October 2002. With a sportsman’s attitude instilled during his time playing Division 1-A Men’s Basketball and a humble approach Phil ‘the Gift’ Heath as he is very often referred to, started out at 185 lbs and grew to 215 lbs with 6% body in preparation for his first competition in 2003. This impressive transformation took relentless training and constant work to achieve and saw him walk away from the Rocky Mountain NPC USA Championship “Northern” with the overall title.
In 2003, Phil Heath was determined to be better and enlisted the help of a hardcore gym. His training became smarter and the application of this new style of training saw him crowned Mr. Colorado, competing at 200lb. Phil ‘The Gift’ Heath was now well on his way to a successful career within Bodybuilding and signed with Weider Health and Fitness for which he respectfully acknowledges former Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler and Peter McGough. He later competed for his pro-card at the USA’s taking overall honors at 215 lbs. In 2011, all the hard work, relentless training and unyielding dedication saw Phil ‘The Gift Heath crowned MR Olympia 2011. Phil has since defended his title two times in a row and proves to the world that he is a force to be reckoned with. As he carves out a real chance of matching the success of Jay cutler, it will be interesting to see if he manages to continue on this rise and become synonymous with colossal legends like eight time champion Ronnie Coleman or Body Building and all round legend Arnold Schwarzenegger.
After meeting him at this year’s Body Power event, we can certainly vouch for his great nature, humbleness and inspiring approach to the sport! Regardless of his future titles Phil Heath can be proud of his incredible accomplishments and is undoubtedly the top bodybuilder in the world.
