How do you deal with injuries?

Posted on February 1, 2013 by Ollie 'Ojay' Matthews There have been 0 comments

Sometimes even the best warm up sets, endless repetitions warming the joints priming the muscles will not help.

Sometimes the best form, strict, slow controlled reps, no cheating will not help.

Sometimes being careful is not enough.

Injuries happen and sometimes these injuries happen in the least expected places.

94/63/1-58/12

For example currently I am injured, I could make up some macho story of how it happened but the truth is. Middle of the night I was getting up to take a leak and tripped over my bed (it jumped out on me I was defenceless!) falling and landing my whole body weight into a cd case, which did not give, the carpet looked like a murder scene and there was two cm of skin missing in my middle toe with both toes cut around it. This has been a set back which has been very annoying to my progression however, it is not an excuse for me to miss session.

Look at the positives, I was due to take a week off of training legs to let my upper body catch up recover and progress through my next stage of my off season progression . However my stubbornness and love of leg day has stopped me taking this recovery period. I have been now forced it and without missing a session I have been able to focus on muscular contractions benefitting the growth of my upper body for the better.

What I am trying to get at is that there is always a way of training around your given injury/hurdle and injuries if dealt with correctly can be just what we need to catapult us into our next phase of progression. Learn from how you happen to have had this injury (I've tidied my room.....) and don't let it happen again. Respect and appreciate how much we have, our full healthy that some people can't ever have no matter how hard they try.

Adapt.

Change.

Progress.

If it means something to you, you will find a way.... If not, you will find an excuse.

As always I wish you all well on your progress in the peak physique contest  and if you want any information and guidance contact me on twitter @ojaypt or search for me on Facebook we can easily sort something out.

Take care

Happy lifting!

Ollie
