After months and months of killing my body in the gym it was time for me to get some well-needed rest! A two-week holiday in the sun was just what the doctor order. Even though I was still mentally focused on my set goals, my body was beat! Sometimes a rest does you good and aids your growth.
Me and Aurora set on the task of finding a destination that would suit us, we wanted somewhere quiet however with the option of bars and clubs if we wanted to. After looking at what seemed a million places we found the perfect place…Mexico. Mexico offers golden beaches and blue seas and the quite areas we needed however just a 20 minute drive in to the city center of Cancun where we could party as much as we wanted.
Booking the holiday was the easy part; the hardest bit was actual getting there.
The price you pay having a beautiful girl on your arm when going on holiday is the amount of shoes and clothes they NEED for 2 weeks ha. With a baggage allowance of only 15kg per person it was always going to be a battle to get everything packed and under weight. As always me and Rora left packing to the last minute, to say it was rushed is a understatement. To put it into perspective we set off at 5:45am and at 3am we was still in the living room picking items which we needed and the ones we could live without. I had my BBW whey, pre workout and shaker cup so I was good to go! Finally we arrived at the airport half asleep but excited, living off Warrior Blaze if I am honest. By this point I just wanted to get on the plane get my feet up and sleep the full 10 hours.
Obviously like every bodybuilder the most important thing to me when booking a holiday is that they have good food. The resort we stayed in was unreal. I ate like a king 7 times a day and virtually stuck to my normal offseason diet for the full two weeks. The resort had two buffet restaurants and four sit down menu restaurants. Breakfast I stuck to my normal 15 egg whites, oats, yoghurt, fruit, and the odd cheeky pancake and waffle, after all I was on holiday ha. The shock on the ladies face when I asked for a 15 egg white omelet was priceless! Meals 2,3,4, was tuna steaks, chicken, with rice, bread, and potatoes. Meal 6 was always at the steak house never had steak like it! Finally meal 7 was a BBW casein shake.
Feels crazy being back home and having to prep, pay and cook my own meals.
The second most important thing when booking a hotel is if they have a gym. I planned to train every other day doing just a full body pump up nothing too stressful just to put blood into the muscle and try and keep some fullness. This plan went out the window after the 1st workout, like every other bodybuilder you can never go easy. I hit it hard the for the full week doing my normal splits but come the 2nd week I HAD to take a week off due to the fact this whole trip was designed for rest!!!
Having the second week off training I had more spare time, which was spent led by the pool topping up my tan. With all this laying around it gave me the time I needed to think and reflect. In previous blogs I have said that reflection is a key aspect to progression. Being nearly a year since I won the Northeast under 80kgs class, I was plotting my next steps in bodybuilding and I had some great ideas not only as far as competing but in business, these ideas will all be revealed soon keep a look out!
Overall this holiday was the best I have ever had, perfect place with the perfect person, just what I needed. It gave me chance to think about what I want out the sport and how lucky I am to have the support network around me in order to achieve these dreams and goals. People only see me up on that stage or at the expo’s they don’t see the hard work that Aurora puts in behind the scenes, making sure I am on point with everything, that I have all my food, then cooking my meals, she knows my diet inside out! Making sure I am in the right mindset to hit the every session and every day as champion, she is the main reason I am good at what I do, I can’t thank her enough and she deserved this holiday as much as I did.
