BBWTransform Kim and Steve - The Beginning

This week has seen the start of the 2014 8 week body transformation challenge and joining you on this journey is Bodybuilding Warehouse Marketing Manager Kim and Warehouse Manager Steve! We will be tracking their progress on the blog and this week they tell us how they managed to get roped in!

Lets hear from Steve:

I had a pretty bad ending to 2013 I split with a long term girlfriend which meant I had to move out on my own for the first time since university, I sprained ligaments in my ankle which meant I couldn't train for 3 months and extra workload meant I was averaging about a 10 hour day in the warehouse. All of this culminated in me being in the worse shape of my life so when I was asked to take part in the body transformation competition all I could think about was the before pictures and how all my friends would see how bad a shape I have got in to. In my head I was going through all of the reasons I could come up with to get out of it and thought maybe next year when I'm in better shape. But when I really thought about it none of these were valid reasons they were just excuses and if I really thought about it the reasons I was coming up with not to do it were actually the reasons I should be doing it in the first place. I don't think there is ever a perfect time to get healthy, there will always be something that gets in the way like injuries, work, just life in general but I also think that if you use these difficulties in the right way they can be a kick start to getting yourself on the right track. There may never be a perfect time to get fit but there is never a perfect time to be unfit either. Lets hear from Kim:

When the planning began for the Body Transformation Challenge back in November, it was suggested a male and female from the BBW team take part and go through the eight week journey along with everyone who entered. My name was put forward and at the time thought 'Hey why not, it'll be a doddle and I'll make sure I eat reasonably well until then'... PAH! As if that happened! I was away on holiday in early December so ate and drank as I pleased. Then, on the run up to Christmas I just thought 'It’s fine I'll get fit in January'.

After a very merry run up to Christmas with a jolly festive holiday and New Year, I came back in to the Warehouse for my ‘before’ pictures on Monday. All I can say is wow, I enjoyed myself a tad too much! Our ‘before’ pictures were supposed to go on site on Monday but I just couldn't do it. A feeling of dread came over me and now I’ve promised that when we do progress shots in two weeks’ time, they’ll go up then...

I think at the start of something like this it's getting over the fear of what people think and keeping your head in gear to start on a journey to a healthy lifestyle for you and no one else. Everyone has their wobbles along the way but it's about working that wobble out and getting back on track, keeping focused and setting yourself goals and then smashing through those goals and improving week on week!

  • Kim. I am sort of glad you had issues with the photos. You guys are the first ever to see all my flab in its ugly glory! The one reason I wasn't going to enter were the photos. BUT I thought it means that my after photos will look good!! And the added incentive of keeping at it because you guys have them! I have over 4 st to lose. Already lost 2. But this is a bigger challenge. I won't win, but I will give it a damn good try. Thanks

  • Loving the challenge guys. Just spent the last hour prepping my meals for the next 4 days. Feel great even after a week. Also been inspired to sign up for a half marathon in April thanks to the challenge. Look forward to hearing the stories

  • Hi Jo, 2 down already is a fantastic result, just keep at it and I really do hope we are helping to motivate and giving that extra push when it gets tough. Keep focused on your goals and split it up, so don't see it as 4 stone but tackle a stone at a time :) I have braved it this week and my pictures will be up on the blog, it is daunting at the thought of people I have never met seeing pictures that I myself do not like but at the same time it pushes me towards my goals and makes me more determined - Kim :)
