Did you know chocolate grows on trees? These raw, fairtrade organic Cacao Nibs come from peeled, whole cacao beans from Peru. The cacao bean is the seed of the Cacao tree. Dark, crunchy and with a bitter chocolatey taste, the cacao beans have been grown organically without the use of pesticides, herbicides or chemicals of any kind. They are also certified Fair Trade, which means that the farmers receive a fair price for their crop.
What are Cacao Nibs?
The cacao bean has long been treasured in human history, containing over 300 nutritional compounds including essential minerals and mood enhancing chemicals. Cacao is full of essential minerals such as calcium, zinc, copper and potassium, as well as 'beauty minerals' sulphur and magnesium.
Raw Cacao contains a cocktail of pharmacologically active substances, including mood-enhancing neurotransmitters and a chemical the brain secretes when we are in love. This could explain why chocolate has long been suspected of having anti-depressant and aphrodisiac properties!
Cacao is not high in caffeine. It does however contain another stimulant, called Theobromine. Theobromine can have a similar positive effect to caffeine, but not as strong and more long lasting. It will not cause palpitations and headaches like caffeine can.
How to use Cacao Nibs?
Cacao Nibs can be eaten as they are, for a delightful chocolate experience! Their crunchy texture adds an extra special lift to trail mixes. Try sprinkling over muesli and fruit, and even on salads.
